Changes to Just Talking Loud...

If you're reading this, you've probably noticed that a few things have changed on this page. When I first posted the Lyndersay Digital website, the blog page appeared because RapidWeaver made it easy to put one up.
From the second post at the end of January, I've been wondering about what makes sense for a writer and a photographer in the blogosphere, given that I usually would prefer to sell my content rather than just give it away.
Of late, though, I've been sifting through the site's statistics, which are far more robust than I had expected. The biggest surprise hidden in all that data was the entry page stats, which logged this page as second only to the home page as a favoured entry to the website.

Hmmm, as the scholarly guy on the investigative team always says.
According to the data, many of you have bookmarked or prefer to reference this page as a starting point.
There are roughly 100 daily visitors to the site now and survey says that roughly half of you have made Just Talking Loud... our entry point to the website. Many of those visitors went
here, so you can expect more of this in the future.
The changes, then, are meant to reflect your preference and make it easier to find new material posted to the website.
In addition, I'm planning to add a few long deferred projects to the page as incremental updates that will build to a more useful and diverse collection of content as I go along.

Given the very different approaches of the home page, which is meant to convey corporate sobriety for first time visitors and this page, on which every wild thought I have is allowed to roam freely, it makes sense (at least to me) to maintain an entry page for people who might want to pay me to do work and one for the folks who just want to loiter for a bit to hear what's happening at this soapbox.
It also allows me to develop the site for both audiences, anticipating that there is likely to be some crossover between what seems, from my study of the stats, to be two different audiences.

Doing all this on the existing theme was beginning to feel claustrophobic, so I invested in a great new theme from
Gary Byrd that has more functionality than I've been able to plumb yet and useful organisational code like the "boxes" that now separate the sidebar content.
Future images will make use of the Lightbox Javascript, which will allow me to place thumbnails or text links on the page that you can click on to enlarge.
Like this.
The overall colour theme remains green, because I don't want to "force ripe" the evolution of the page just yet. Besides, given what goes on here, a soothing colour might be a good idea.

Please feel free to make use of the enhanced linking tools. I have retained the original RSS Feed, which you'll have to scroll down the page to find, but added two ways of linking to
FeedBurner, either via e-mail updates or a FeedBurner RSS link.
Technorati,Yahoo and Google users along with users of other link aggregators such as NewsGator will find links that make it easy to add the page to their preferred way of gathering blog feeds. Global Voices were one of the earliest referees to a blog post on this page, so I'm returning the big-up with a link to their service.
The wider page will also give the copy a little more breathing room and encourage me to write longer entries, which may not actually be a good thing after all.
It's my hope that you will find the changes useful and valuable ways of getting to what you need to see.
Thanks for visiting, it's great to have you here.
