Outlish, an online magazine

Karel Macintosh asked me if I’d like to work on an idea she had to publish an online youth magazine.

Between April 2010 and June 2012 I photographed a range of interesting subjects for what became Outlish, some of whom remain friends to this day.

It was an invaluable opportunity to see how an online publication might work, the challenges, the financial reality of it, the need to play the long game in making it happen.

I also got a crash course in social media promotion along the way, just as link and content distribution was getting started.

The publication was eventually nominated as a finalist in the Digital Magazine Awards for 2010. It didn’t win, but I’d say that we all were winners in the long term.
